In late April, Leon County Public Schools held its annual Middle School Brain Bowl competition, a Jeopardy-style event where players must buzz in to answer questions about history, geography, math, science, government, literature, sports, and pop culture.
In all, 14 four-member teams from public, private and home school groups participated in the six rounds of competition.
Montford Middle School won the competition. The Montford team included Second Ward members Graham Beazer (team captain), Stokes Bryan and Johannes Hassell.
FSUS (Florida High) finished second, led by Team Captain Evie Gardner, a member of the Second Ward.
Deer Lake Middle School took third place. The Deer Lake team included Ryan Pierce and Cody Mauler from Third Ward.
Gardner was the highest scoring individual in the competition and Bryan was second.
