Looking to volunteer this holiday season? As we approach this festive time of year, many of us are hoping to find extra ways to help others who are less fortunate. Go to justserve.org to see new Thanksgiving and Christmas listings for projects needing volunteers in Tallahassee and the surrounding areas.
JustServe is a community service website provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It acts as a clearinghouse both for organizations seeking volunteers and those who want to help in their community. Organizations post their volunteer needs at justserve.org. Volunteers log on, learn what’s available, and choose a way to serve.
In linking needs with volunteers, the service “does not discriminate based on race, religion, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation in posting projects or encouraging volunteers” to serve within their guidelines.
On justserve.org, you can find group projects, individual projects, projects that require skill, or projects that just require caring.
For example, this holiday season, you can join the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign as a bell-ringer or serve food at Grace Mission’s annual Thanksgiving and Christmas luncheons, adopt a family through Catholic Charities’ Christmas Connection or sing to the elderly through the Elder Day Care program.
There are also national projects listed on JustServe. One such opportunity is with Billion Graves: you can go to your local cemetery and take photos of gravestones or, working from home, transcribe cemetery records to help others find their ancestors.
Whether you want to ring a bell, build ramps, read to children, or photograph gravestones, JustServe has a way to get involved and help others. Log on today!
