TALLAHASSEE -- Though the pandemic has disrupted many volunteer activities, it has not slowed one project to provide relief for breast cancer patients at Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center. Members of the Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are sewing pillows for the patients. Missionaries were reassigned from across the globe Some of the missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in the northwest Florida and south Georgia area had a major detour before arriving in the South. The Church has 67,000 missionaries serving worldwide. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, many of those missionaries were sent home and reassigned to stateside missions. Tallahassee missionary couple adapts to gospel service under pandemic conditions SAN FRANCISCO – Tallahassee residents Curtis and Carol Austin left their home last year to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, arriving in the Bay Area to support members and leaders of the church. They soon received an assignment: teaching English to Mandarin and Cantonese speakers and helping adults pursue their education through Brigham Young University’s Pathways Program.
