Alabama first responder finds himself on the receiving end of assistance

Church members from Tallahassee area join Helping Hands effort DAPHNE, AL -- James Johnston, a police officer in Gulf Shores, Alabama, is usually on the giving end of assistance to the public. Saturday and Sunday, relief workers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Helping Hands program were at his home, clearing trees and doing general cleanup – and he found himself on the receiving end of community service. Local Latter-day Saint healthcare workers on the pandemic front lines

THOMASVILLE -- Healthcare workers have by and large been the unsung heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing medical support services during a national health crisis. Two members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: Leah Smith, a registered nurse at Thomasville Eye Center in Thomasville and Tasha Odum, a dental hygienist in Cairo, recounted their experiences in providing health care during the pandemic.
