Stake members respond to call for volunteers in Louisiana

Members of the Tallahassee Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints joined more than 2,000 other volunteers in Louisiana this past weekend (Sept. 17-19) as Hurricane Ida relief efforts continued for the third week.

Helping Hands program puts service first

At the core of beliefs held by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a willingness to serve other people. The Church’s Helping Hands program is the fulfillment of that belief. Alabama first responder finds himself on the receiving end of assistance

Church members from Tallahassee area join Helping Hands effort DAPHNE, AL -- James Johnston, a police officer in Gulf Shores, Alabama, is usually on the giving end of assistance to the public. Saturday and Sunday, relief workers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Helping Hands program were at his home, clearing trees and doing general cleanup – and he found himself on the receiving end of community service.
